| About the Houndstooth
INFOSHEET and FAQ on the HOUNDSTOOTH version 2.01 Measurements These were all taken from Houndstooth PP112. PP112 was set up with a vertical ASA, 12 spiral vented barrel, palmer wedge stock and a adco square shooter sight.
How do I change velocity? Velocity adjustment is very easy. All you need is a 3/16 Hexagon wrench: Insert the wrench at the rear of the lower tube, turn the screw clockwise to increase the velocity, and counter clockwise to decrease the velocity. How do you clean a fixed barrel? Cleaning the barrel is very easy with this gun; all you need to do is pull a pin in the back of the bolt, turn it clockwise about 30degrees, and then pull backwards. Next, slide a squeegee through, and put the bolt back in. To put the bolt back in after squeegeing it just reverse the way you got it out. I was timed at 18 secconds on the field durring a fire-fight, and 15 secconds off the field. I use a Jerk 1 Deluxe, only one pull through is needed. How should I clean the Houndstooth? Cleaning the whole gun after a day of play is easy. Pull out the bolt and flush the gun thorougly with warm water, shake out any excess water. Gas up the gun and fire the gun to get the moisture out. Remove the Co2 and lubricate it by putting one drop of oil on each o-ring of the bolt, (a few drops on the hammer and spring and a few drops in the ASA), gas it up again and fire several shots. Extra oil will be deposited in the barrel, reducing accuracy if not moved. (This is just a basic rundown, for more information read the manual under maintenance.) Is it Accurate? Accuracy is second to none. With the help of my square shooter, I was getting 4 inch groupings at 50 feet, and 6 inch groupings at 75 feet. I believe the accuracy has to do with 3 things: 1. The barrel that comes with the Houndstooth is a fixed precision elliptical-honed brass barrel. This means that the barrel is shaped like a football, very tight at the breach, wider in the middle, and then tight at the muzel. *Glenn belives brass is the best material for barrels.* 2. The Houndstooth is very stable with three points of contact with the shooter, the pump handel, the trigger frame grips, and the wedge stock. This makes it easy to get very consistant shots. 3. The trigger pull on the Houndstooth is almost non-existant, (close to 1/8 of an inch, if not smaller.) This helps stablize the gun when shooting. What's a Ball Feed Detent? (taken from the manual) ' This is a small but important part of the proper operation (feeding and loading) of your paintgun. It consists of a C-shaped spring and a 1/4" delrin ball. The delrin ball protrudes into the feed port area of the barrel to maintain proper positioning of the paintball, so it can be pushed smoothly into the area of the barrel by the bolt. In other words, the ball feed detent stops double feeding. ' I couldn't of said it better. Tournament ready? I would have to say yes, so would Glenn. The Houndstooth can go face to face with most all of the tourny ready pump guns; that's including the bud's sniper's, phantoms, and sterlings. I have not played with or against any buzzerds or vipers yet, so no comments about other custom pump's. With the auto trigger I would guess that I pump out just over 3 BPS (balls per second). All of Glenn's guns are 'done guns' meaning that you dont need to add anything to make it better. All proformance features are built right into them. Upgrades The only real options on the Houndstooth offered by PPS (Palmers Pursuit Shop) relate to the barrel and gas delivery systems. You can order the barrel with or without spiral ported venting; this is not suposed to make the gun any more accurate, but it sure does quiet the gun down. You can also order it with vert, rear, bottom line, or dual ASA. Trouble shooting You're not going to have many problems with Palmer guns if you just clean the gun after every outing and oil it when needed. See How should I clean the Houndstooth? Where can I reach Glenn Palmer? You can reach Glenn Palmer at: This is my first attempt at a FAQ, I'm sure I will be adding to this as I learn more about the Houndstooth.
